A £30m contract has been placed with a West German shipyard to enlarge the vessels by the insertion of a second full-length vehicle deck which will increase their capacity to 60 lorries.
Two are to be used on the Dover-Zeebrugge crossing, the others on crossings from Portsmouth.
'Sealink UK is increasing the freight capacity on its DoverOstend crossing from March 21, when the Folkestone-Ostend service is to be withdrawn.
