BEN (the Motor and Cycle Trades Benevolent Fund) is campaigning for the right to recover vat that some local authorities and companies enjoy. It is iniquitous that the fund should have had to find £50,000 in non-recoverable vat out of its charitable income last year. This, coincidentally, is the cost of refurbishing the nursing wing at the Lynwood home, of which about £6,500 is tax.
