I CONSIDER your reply to Mr Geekie's letter (CM, November 17) arrogant in its style, and inaccurate in content.
It is obvious that you and your judges missed the point of his slogan "People going places go Scottish", by quoting only the first three words in your text. Plainly the slogan offers the beholder a choice of meanings, this being the recipe for most successful slogans. To spell it out, "People going places" does not simply mean "bus passengers" but holds the underlying meaning of "people in control of their future" — go Scottish!!
In your reply you considered the slogan to be a statement of the obvious. Presumably, therefore, the Leyland Vehicles slogan — "Leyland Trucks — delivering the goods" — falls into a similar category. After all, what else are trucks for?
Having taken careful note of the nit-picking attitude of your judging panel in recent livery contests I would challenge them to come up with the perfect livery and signwriting design, wouldn't mind betting, in the case of a coach, their vehicle would be completely white with the operator's name and address on the boot lid in 2ft letters, rather like an address on an envelope. Needless to say, wording such as "Travel with Bloggs", would be omitted from the vehicles as a statement of the obvious. M S ELLIS Cambridge Gloucestershire
