Hitting the right note
151 he Hawk never likes to blow his own trumpet because it is a little known fact that he is a virtuoso cornet player. He mastered this skill back in his fledgling days as a member of the First Peckham Sea Scouts—perhaps not quite on a par with players in the Halle Orchestra. Following an award from the National Lottery, the Halle has taken delivery of a specialised Scania rigid truck, a 17-tonne R94L134x2LB 310, which
was supplied by West Pennine Trucks. The vehicle has been adapted to carry the performers' instruments on tours of Britain and overseas. The orchestra, which is based at the Bridgewater Hall, Manchester, is Britain's oldest established professional symphony orchestra, founded in 1858 by pianist and conductor Sir Charles Halle. And if ever an emergency crops up and they find themselves in need of a cornet player, then yours truly will be only too pleased to oblige.
