SUPERMARKET G lA N Morrisons is pushing for nighttime deliveries at its supermarkets in Felixstowe and Derbyshire.
Morrisons is seeking permission for five deliveries a night at its Grange Farm Avenue, Felixstowe store.
Despite objections from residents and conservation group The Felixstowe Society, the company says these deliveries would not disturb neighbours it points out that they are already subjected to more frequent noise by other vehicles using the road. Loading or unloading at the site. which also houses a pub, doctors' surgery and petrol station, is currently restricted to 6.30am10.30pm Mondays to Fridays, and 7am-8pm Saturday-s.
Morrisons has also applied to lift the delivery curfew at its site in Chapel-en-le-Frith, Derbyshire. The supermarket wants permission for two overnight deliveries at the store, using driveon/drive-off deliveries rather than noisier pallet trucks. The delivery yard is currently shut overnight.
A Morrisons spokesman says: "The removal of restrictions on deliveries would increase availability of fresh produce within the store and reduce the amount of deliveries made in the day, limiting our impact on busy traffic periods."
