THE PURCHASE OF a car transport specialist in the NorthEast by Al Automotive has saved 31 drivers' jobs.
Paul Hodgson Transport was snapped up immediately after administrators from Begbies Traynor were called in to sort out the firm's financial difficulties. Its contracts with Nissan and largescale retailer Car Craft were in jeopardy but according to its new owner, Alan Potts, the acquisition has provided continuity of service.
Potts, who also runs West .othian's Al Automotive, says he had to move fast to buy the business and assets of the Northumberland company: "We were able to do a deal which meant we could keep business as usual for the customers and the staff."
The company's name has been changed to Elite Car Transport; Potts says that for the time being it will be run as a separate entity to Al , which also transports cars:-We plan to run the company as it is and then look at it and see if we can make any changes. The companies will run in their own right at the moment, with different liveries.
Potts describes the jobs at Elite as "very safe", adding:"In the long term we plan to move forwards, not backwards."
