• Senior Traffic Commissioner Michael Betts is warning hauliers not to annoy their neighbours if they want to avoid problems from local authorities. He says the intro duction of continuous licensing, which allows operators to renew their licences without readvertising their operating centres, could result in an environmental backlash if hauliers abuse the system.
He told a meeting of the Road Haulage Association's International Group that he could foresee a situation where hauliers causing problems for their neighbours could meet opposition from local councils to their licences being renewed.
If it got out of hand, he warned, a council might start inundating the relevant TC with objections.
Betts: Don't abuse system.
