HITHERTO no standards for feeder and section pillars for the overhead equipment of trolleybns systems have
existed. Makers have, consequently, been called upon to supply a wide variety of types and arrangements tO meet the individual preferences of operators and consulting engineers.
In this connection the Joint Overhead Equipment Committee Of the M.P.T.A. and P.T.A., which include in their membership all the publictransport tramway and trolleybus systems in Great 'Britain and . Northern Ireland, has now available a specification and drawings forming recommendations for the design and construction of such pillars. It is hoped, by this means, to ensure that manufacturers' tenders can be, moreuniform in their essentials.
In making its recommendations, the
joint Committee has had in its mind the possibilities Of post-war developnients, and they will be applicable where tramways may be converted to trolleybus systems or where new route construction is necessary. It remains possible, however, for reasonable. variations in 'design and construction to be made so as to provide, to an extent, for local needs. '
