• It is understood no official talks have taken place between parties involved at Eastern Coach Works Ltd, Lowestoft, where 79 painters are on unofficial strike.
Mr A. H. Wright. Vehicle Builders Union shop steward, said at a meeting on Tuesday that there was little to report at this stage and that the situation was extremely delicate, a further meeting was to be held yesterday.
The walkout by the painters follows six months of negotiations with the management. The men claim that the present bonus system is unfair to them and that they are unable to earn as much as their colleagues in other departments.
Earlier this week Eastern Coach Works laid off nearly 400 workers and said it was obliged to do so in view of' the unofficial action taken by the painters.
No comment was available from the company this week and all inquiries were being referred to BLMC public relations department in London.
