UNITED Carriers, the nationwide parcels delivery group, is introducing demountable vehicles into its 800 strong delivery fleet. The company has selected the Abel Uni-Swop demountable system which operates from twin lift packs powered by the vehicle's existing air supply.
Two chassis and six body units have already been placed into service and are being used for nightly trunk services as well as for local deliveries. The chassis are Bedford KMH fitted with the new 500 series engine. The bodywork was undertaken by York Ward and Rowiatt of Wellingborough using standard Abel lift frames incorporating ISO type twist locks which are positioned at 20ft centres.
