It seems we're stuck with pub stories this week; it must have something to do with the Show. Anyway, there they were a cadre of senior executives from the manufacturers swopping was therestories. A bit like a night at the Old Boys Club, but who came out on top?
I'm told it was Phil Ives of Ailsa who claims — that's our way of saying we've no proof —.to have been involved in planning, marketing and selling almost everything on two wheels. Cycles (motor and pedal), scooters, sports and saloon cars, estate cars, caravans, light, medium and heavy commercials in all configurations, municipal vehicles, coaches, SD and DD buses and IC:E and Cl engines, manual and automatic gearboxes. There's nothing left, you say; of course there is. What about ambulances, fire tenders, crash tenders, and. just for a laugh — horseboxes?
