The Crafter may live in the shadow of its more ubiquitous relation, the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, but the new engine range has addressed the issue that held it back in terms of functionality, giving the VW a new lease of life in terms of appeal.
Where once its driveline, with the lower engine outputs, struggled to match all that sound engineering and practicality elsewhere on the van, it now feels more tike the complete article.
But before you commit, a couple of points that may sway your decision. The first is price. This van is not cheap, but the upshot is the high residual values it will retain when you move on. And the second is AdBlue. To some it may not matter that the tank needs to be filled only every 10,000 miles it's another issue to contend with.
However, if you do invest, you will get a van with excellent build that has easy and secure driving manners; a cabin that's geared for drivers in terms of comfort and practicality; competitive fuel consumption and an extensive product range. All these help to give the Crafter the CM number one spot in 'big van world'... for now.
