• Lancaster-based haulier Safeguard will be one of the first UK customers for Eaton's new S Series gearboxes.
Having run two of them in 17.422 MANs for the past nine months, for Eaton's prerelease trials, Safeguard's transport manager David Gardner says: "The drivers are very happy with them and we have had no problems or modifications in over 100,000km."
Gardner manages a fleet that since 1984 has been all MAN with ZF transmissions, but now he is sold on the Eaton box.
Safeguard has 19 artics and was approached by Eaton to carry out the trials. Test vehicles were fitted with a counter on the clutch pedal and gear stick and the accumulated totals were relayed back to Eaton every couple of months.
As soon as MAN's latest F2000 cab is available Gardner's order will go in with the Eaton box on the spec.
