NOTTINGHAMSHIRE County Council has warned truck drivers they face fines of up £1,000 if they take short cuts on weight-restricted roads.
The council's trading standards department plans a series of spot checks on roads with weight restriction orders after complaints from local residents and businesses.
Councillor Joyce Bosnjak says:"The weight restriction is in place for the safety of residents and the protection of the environment so it's important they are inspected. It does not, however, apply to vehicles that have legitimate business in the area."
