THE MUCH-HERALDED Chinese invasion of the UK market has so far been limited to a few electric and micro-vans, but the irst mainstream product was revealed in the unlikely surroundings of Surrey’s Edenbridge Show at the weekend.
The Steed, known as the Wingle in some markets, comes from the Great Wall company, and is a onetonne pickup in the style of current far-Eastern products. It is being imported by International Motors, which plans to begin deliveries in the last quarter of the year.
The launch was staged by The Steed’s irst English dealer, Kinghams of Croydon. The pre-production example on display is petrolpowered, but the real thing will have a 2-litre turbo-diesel. The price for the well-equipped Steed SE model will be £13,995 ex-VAT for the double-cab version, while the model pictured with a glazed hard top is £1,000 more.
