DRIVERS carrying fly-ash from Elland power station, Yorkshire, found themselves in an impossible situation if they discovered their vehicles were overloaded, because it was positively dangerous for them to attempt to return to the loading point to off-load the excess.
This was said by Mr Stephen Kirkbright, defending, when two hauliers and nine drivers faced a total of 94 charges of overloading before the Calder magistrates, at Halifax, last week. The magistrates inflicted fines totalling £530 and ordered the hauliers to pay £30 costs, following pleas of guilty.
