• A report on a specific system of road pricing for urban roads was considered by the council of the European Conference of Ministers of Transport in Paris last week. The council was looking at the growing problem of city traffic, and now proposes to keep under review any further pricing studies and experiments.
The council also discussed the main points of the EEC's proposed rules concerning driving hours and working conditions. With a view to reaching international agreement on the widest possible basis, further discussions on this subject are to be actively pursued within the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe.
The ECMT's next international symposium On transport economics is to be held in Rome next September, when it is expected that about 300 representatives from the transport industry, trade unions, government departments and universities will attend.
