• Although production of double-deck, bodies on Bristol VRT rear-engined chassis for Tilling and Scottish Bus Group operators is now in full swing (CM last week), Eastern Coach Works Ltd. continues to build double-deckers on other chassis for municipal operators.
Four bodies on Leyland Atlantean chassis for Ipswich Corporation Transport are being followed by 10 for Leicester City Transport, also on Atlantean chassis. The Leicester vehicles are 30ft 4in, overall by 14ft 5.625in. high (unladen) and seat 74 passengers, 43 in the upper saloon and 31 in the lower. Features include ICI Ambla 306 Cairo red seat trimming, Beclawat Demislide opening windows, combined advertisement and lighting panels above the cant rails in each saloon and Clayton B42 heating.
The same smoothness of line and good proportions found on the VRT bodies is also seen in this illustration of Leicester no. 100, although the sleekness of the former bodies is lost due to the increased height, emphasized by the broad maroon band above the lower saloon
windows. The familiar Atlantean bustle also appears. F.K.M.
