• New cable contracts for civil engineers Fitzpatrick with US cable communications giant Nynex has resulted in orders for 87 Leyland Daf trucks.
The bulk of the order. supplied by Vales Truck Centre of Watford is for 78 Leyland Daf 400 3.6m chassis.
These have Portland Bodies dropside bodies with bolsters for cable-carrying conduits plus tool containers for the site tools.
The remaining nine newcomers are new-generation 85-300 eight-leggers,equipped with McGovern steel tipper bodies and back-of-cab Palfinger grabloaders for removing trench spoil.
"We operate a fleet of nearly 550 vehicles of various types," says Fitzpatrick's transport manager John Mahoney. but we're impressed by Leyland Dots service back up."
