'THE two-wheeled trailer shown in accompanying pictures has been designed specially by the Eagle 4Engineering Co., Ltd., Warwick, for the door-to-door collection of salvage materials from private houses and is an ideal auxiliary unit for towing behind usual types of refuse-collection vehicle. In cases where it is more desirable to have a separate collection for salvage, the trailer can be used behind a private car.
Consideration has been given to the problem of separating different classes of material and the body is divided into separate compartments, giving accommodation for paper, scrap metal, waste rags and bones. The total capacity of the body is approximately 2 cubic yds.. and the trailer will carry up to 15 cwt. of materials. A light canvas cover is provided over the top of the body.
The, axle has roller-bearing hubs with " easy-clean " wheels fitted with 6.25 by 16 extra-low-pressure pneumatic tyres. The 8-in, diameter internal expanding brakes are operated by an over-run device -incorporated in the towing hitch, also by a parking lever in a convenient position at the front end. The towing hitch has a Home Office standard-pattern eye and can be used behind any vehicle fitted with the Home Office standard towing jaw.
An adjustable supporting leg is fitted at the front to support the trailer when it is uncoupled from the towing vehicle. The trailer is well sprung on low-cambered laminated semi-elliptic springs.
