The fight against truck crime is being stepped up with plans to merge two TruckWatch schemes in eastern England. Guy Sheppard reports.
THE MERGER of two TruckWatch schemes in East Anglia looks set to be approved by members next week.
TruckWatch is a crime fighting initiative backed by trade associations and the police. It is designed to raise awareness about the risk of theft among haulage operators and uses drivers to spot stolen vehicles.
The merger of Norfolk and Suffolk into Eastern Region TruckWatch is designed to improve the scheme's effectiveness It is hoped that a revamped regional scheme will encourage a greater focus on truck theft by the police, as well as improving aware ness about the risk of theft among operators (CM 16 March). Detective Constable Andy Brown, from Norfolk's organised vehicle crime unit, says a combined Truck Watch will have a broader reach, helping with detection.
