the Commission for Equality and Human Rights, which will bring together the three existing commissions the Commission for Racial Equality, the Disability Rights Commission and the Equal Opportunities Commission.
The purpose of a single commission taking over all the powers of the three current commissions as well as acquiring new powers is to make it more influential and beneficial to everyone. It will have more power and knowledge to address all types of discrimination and all human rights issues.
The main aims of the new commission are to reduce inequality and protect human rights. It will have the ability to help businesses put together an equality policy that will cover all forms of discrimination. Promoting awareness and understanding of human rights will encourage good practices, reducing the number of costly court and tribunal cases.
