Leamington Town Council will purchase a motor fire-engine, at a cost not exceeding 21000, but the voting in favour of this action was very close-13 to 11. The minority will disappear next time.
At Edinburgh.
The report of Firemaster Pordage, to which we referred last. week, evoked considerable criticism on its presentation to the Edinburgh Town Council on the 11th inst. Mr. Bruce Lindsay gave a flat denial to the statement; that the turbine pump was from 25 cwt. to 30 cwt. heavier than the plunger type. After entering into further detail, be moved that the matter of asking tenders in the form recommended should be delayed, and that further inquiry should be made amongst some of the largest fire-brigade establishments, through the Town Clerk, with the assistance of an independent committee.
The recommendations of the Firemaster were carried by 20 votes to 12. Stockton-on-Tees wil shortly have its motor fire-engine.
An interesting plea by Chief Officer hall, of Redcar, for the use of tractor-hauled horsed fire engines appears on page 330. Durham City Council, in conjunction with various rural and urban district councils, will probably purchase a motor fire-engine, for joint use and service, at an early date.
