• A unit is being established at MIRA, financially sponsored by the Public Transport Association and the Scottish Road Passenger Transport Associaton, with grant aid from the Ministry of Technology, which will study operational problems on behalf of p.s.v. operators.
The unit will survey and co-ordinate work already being carried out in the bus industry and will initiate, as necessary, further work. This may cover a wide field embracing aspects of requirements for vehicle design and passenger safety as well as organization and method studies for economic fleet operation. The unit will circulate resulting information to all members of the sponsoring associations and. occasionally, as MIRA Reports.
Mr. R. B. Medley has been appointed research officer in charge and Mr. T, W. Brown as research assistant. Prior to his new appointment, Mr. Medley was licensing officer of Yorkshire Traction Co. Ltd. from where, in 1967, he was seconded to take part in the West Yorkshire transportation study carried out by the Traffic Research Corporation of Canada Mr. Brown was liaison engineer with Rootes Motors Ltd., Luton.
MIRA's management committee has constituted a "P.S.V. Operational Research Advisory Panel" under the chairmanship of Mr. S. J. B. Skyrme of the National Bus Company.
