• A new coil carrier, designed for 5ft 6in. diameter coils, has been announced by Thompson Trailmobile. The standard welllength is 22ft, but other arrangements of overall length and well-length arc available to the same design.
The well is fabricated from steel into a vee formation with longitudinal hardwood runners to support the coils. A longitudinally laid Keruing hardwood floor or an optional 27nun-thick plywood floor allows a lighter unladen weight than most carriers of this type. It has Trailmobile short rocker arm suspension with the radius rods positioned below the axle to restrict axle wind up and prevent hopping during braking. Rubber bushes are used throughout to reduce maintenance and allow silent operation of the suspension.
Wide silicone-manganese springs, shotpeened to increase the life factor, are claimed to provide a high level of stability. Twospeed heavy landing gear with swivel feet, two 10-ton ground load axles, rubber mudflaps with steel splash plates, seven core lighting with insulated earth return, and a high-strength bumper are all standard equipment.
Thompson Trailmobile is a member of the transporter division of the John Thompson Group.
