They talk about justice being seen to be done: a speaker at the AA luncheon last week suggested that enforcement should be seen to be done, too. He was telling his audience that police in the Thames Valley area had been told by their chief to go about their duties as conspicuously as possible. Amen to that; a square deal for road users?
The speaker emphasized that the police car parked in the side road or layby might trap the unwary speeder but did little to prevent accidents: the white car with the flashing blue lights had a much stronger positive effect on road behaviour.
