II Reefer operator Frigoscandia has signed a deal with Belgian vegetable processor Pinguin to buy the King's Lynn site of collapsed food firm Albert Fisher. However, it Is not clear if this will save drivers' jobs (CM13-19 June).
Frigoscandia is to take the land and buildings at the site, which produces a third of the UK's frozen peas, while Pinguin will take on the plant and machinery. A Frigoscandia spokesman says uncertainty over the scale of Pinguin's involvement at the site means that consultation with Frigoscandia staff, including owner-drivers, will continue.
E The Albert Fisher Group went into administration on 23 May. Last week the official receiver, accountant KPMG, said it was to close the site and make 320 employees redundant because it could not find a buyer for the frozen foods business as a going concern.
