Below the open park, and supporting It on massive steelwork, the coach station has its own boarding platforms, secondary inquiry and booking offices and toilet facilities. The basement area also contains a maintenance bay, with a single inspection -pit, and an Essex automatic bus washer alongside. The whole of the traffic circuit on both levels ensures that vehicles enter the station from The Square and leave via Pavilion Road.
The arrangements of the enlarged station will result in appreciable running economies: the centralized operations have led to the closing of two bus garages at St, Michaels Road and Norwich Avenue and dead mileage has been much reduced,
