NI A truck driver is critically ill in hospital after being Involved in one of two horrific accidents that blocked the M6 last Saturday.
The unnamed driver, who works for West Country haulier Gregory Distribution, had to cut from his vehicle after being involved in a collision Involving several vehicles on the southbound M6 in Staffordshire between junctions 13 and 14. This occurred just minutes after a first crash at 6.15am, involving a saloon car and an articulated lorry belonging to Gist.
Although the Gist driver was taken to hospital suffering from shock, he was physi cally unharmed. The car driver was pronounced dead at the scene. Following both accidents, several people were taken to both North Staffordshire and Stafford General hospitals with serious head, neck and back injuries.
The motorway was closed for almost eight hours. A spokeswoman for Gist said that its driver was still very shocked but would be helping with an internal investigation into the matter. He will also be offered counselling.
"We send our deepest condolences to the family of the person killed," she said.
