specifying every extra available surface might make you feel good, but don't expect all those goodies to boost the value dramatically when the time comes to sell it second-hand, says Mike Curtis of Daf dealership Watts.
"We recently acquired a 2003-vintage Daf XF95 Super Space Cab 530 6x2 with everything on it," he says. -I'm talking polished Alcoa alloy wheels, twin Eminox stacks, lights everywhere, a flat-screen TV, DVD player and an elaborate hi-li system with 16 speakers.
"Around /18,000 had been spent on all this kit, and, as a result, we'll get a hit of a premium for the vehicle. However, we won't see the full amount, or anything like it."
A truck dripping with accessories is likely to sell more quickly than one that isn't. "We've got three operators who are anxious to get their hands on this one," says Curtis.
Barry Browning of Andover, Hants, Mercedes-Benz dealership Pentagon agrees that a well-equipped truck will usually sell quickly and for a premium, but warns that lots of extras can sometimes prove counterproductive. -You may get operators saying don't want all that kit on it because it's just more stuff that can go wrong'." •
