Navara enjoys star role in crash tests
THE EURO NCAP organisation has moved faster than expected to publish tne revised crash-test figures after the 2008 Nissan Navara's initial poor collision results (CM 28 February, 'Unacceptable results in pickup crash tests).
A software update was introduced in December. when the problem of slow deployment of its air bag was identified. The revised results give the Navara three stars for adult occupant protection and four for child occupant protection. The secretary general of Euro NCAP, Michiel van Ratingen, says: "Nissan has acted responsibly and promptly in response to our findings." A Nissan spokeswoman points out that 130,000 Navaras have been sold, including 7,000 2008 models in the UK, with no incidents reported, and that it is the only model in the segment to offer side air bags.

Since CM first reported on the story, Euro NCAP has confirmed that the Ford Ranger and Toyota Hilux are the next pickups due to be tested, although no timetable is available yet.
• Nissan has rebadged its entry-level NP300 pickup, which will make its debut at this year's CV Show.
Available in single, King and double-cab form, it is powered by a Euro-4 2.5-litre directinjection diesel engine. which produces 133hp and 304Nm of torque.
Mated to a five-speed manual transmission, it comes equipped with a limited slip differential, while all-wheel drive is also available.
