VEHICLE stability under braking has improved for new lorries coming onto Europe's roads since the introduction of EEC directive 75/524 of October 1976.
The claim comes from a report by the Society of Motor Manufacturers despite, it says, "some drivers' subjective impressions to the contrary."
The effect of fitting loadsensing and brake-line pressure modulating equipment to improve braking stability has in some cases led to a reduction in the difference in driving "feel" between the laden and unladen condition.
However, controlled testing has shown that overall braking stability, regardless of the road surface conditions, is better than for vehicles designed prior to the EEC directive.
