LONDON COUNTRY Bus Services have just received the first Duple Dominant II coach for Green Line services.
The AEC Reliance coach is the first Duple Dominant II coach to be built to Bus Grant specifications and is equipped with 49 coach seats and incorporates a two-tier luggage pen inside the coach behind the driver.
The coach was officially handed over to D. Fytche, managing director of London Country, by Alex Gibbins, managing director of Duple Coachbuilders, at a ceremony at Gatwick airport.
Gatwick was chosen as the coach is to enter service on route 727between Luton, Heathrow and Gatwick on May 21.
It is the first of 75 new coaches to be delivered at the rate of 15 a year for the next five years.
The coaches, which will be renewed every five years, form part of London Country Bus Services' plans to revitalise the Green Line network.
New first-class coaches are being used in conjunction with improved routes and frequencies in a plan to make services more attractive to more sections of the community and in an attempt to capture a share of the tourist market.
London Country already has in service several Plaxton Supreme coaches which, together with the Dominants, will provide luxury coaches for all Green Line routes.
