MAZDA Car Imports (GB) Ltd of Tunbridge Wells, Kent, is to bring out a replacement for ItsB1600 purpose-built 1-ton pick-up truck.
The cab has been restyled and is 76mm (M) longer than the previous model providing an extra 38mm (11/21n) leg room inside.
The all-steel body is in two distinct parts, the front being separate from the rear cargo bed, which has also been increased in area measuring 2.18m (86m) in length, 1.44m (571n) in width, and is mounted on a ladder-type chassis.
The 1586 cc (97cuin) single overhead camshaft petrol engine, rated at 52kW (70bhp) has a compression ratio of 8.6 to 1, which allows it to run on 2-star fuel. It drives through a single dry plate clutch to a four-speed synchromesh gearbox with a steering column-mounted gear change lever. Conventional suspension of the strut and wishbone type with coil spings and double acting shock absorbers is used at the front end in conjunction with a heavy duty anti-roll bar, whilst 7-leaf semi-elliptical springs, also with double acting hydraulic dampers, are used at the rear.
Vacuum assistance to 26cm (10Vsin) diameter drum brakes fitted all round is claimed to give good braking performance. At £2,449, including VAT, the standard specification includes seat belts, wing mirrors, rope hook rail, and double latched tailgate. These are considered as extras by other makers:
