cutting the fuel used and miles travelled by the companies that supply it with car parts.
Jaguar, which used NYK Logistics to rethink its supply operation, has reduced stockholding at its Halewood plant by more than half, mileage by 45% and CO, emissions by 2,883 tonnes a year.
One of the key ways it has done this is to make sure that all the vehicles delivering to Halewood are full. Previously many of them were half-empty because individual suppliers were making deliveries that are now consolidated by NYK.
Jaguar now has between 80 and 100 truck deliveries a day at Halewood supplying parts from 212 different companies in the UK and Europe.
The DfT was so impressed by the benefits of the Jaguar/NYK system that it has used it as a best practice case study.
