Ford prices up
THE £30,000 Ford is brought closer by the announcement of some of the company's 1979 prices.
The range is led by the Transcontinental H4435 6x4 artic which will cost £29,425.
Other prices announced (this year's in brackets) are:— D0710 rigid £6,235 (£5,981); D1614 rilgid £11,478 (£11,366); D2418 artic £12,005 (£11,895); D2414 6 x 4 tipper £14,407 (£14,293); Transconti H3424 rigid £21,059 (£20,075); and Transconti H4427 artic £22,600 (£21,550).
A40 bridge go-ahead
APPROVAL has been given for a £627,448 bridge across the River Cleddau at Pont Treffgame, near Haverfordwest on the A40 trunk road.
This will replace a prefabricated steel bridge which has been helping cater for increased traffic along the route and which has taken pressure off the existing 56-year-old bridge.
Gwent by-pass inquiry
A PUBLIC inquiry has been ordered into plans for a New Inn by-pass in Gwent.
The inquiry, ordered by Secretary of State for Wales John Morris, will be held at Pontypool on November 28.
Recent throughput
A RECORD freight throughput has been recorded at Containerbase's Manchester inland clearance depot at Urmston.
In the last week of September, it handled 3,200 tons of import/export cargo, and this has strengthened the company's plans to develop the site.
General manager Les Carlile said: "In recent months we have witnessed a sustained upward trend, particularly in exports, and all signs are that this is no mere flash in the pan, but a firm indication of a general improvement in business climate, notably in the Greater Manchester area."
