CUTS in Nottingham's city centre bus services have made five 1973 Leyland Nationals surplus to requirements.
The services, now labelled Cityline, were begun over five years ago as part of the city's now-abandoned pro-bus policy and ran until last year as free services.
A 2p fare introduced last year was followed this past summer by a reduction in the frequency of one service to operate only at off-peak times.
To achieve better fleet utilisation, as Cityline vehicles now run on other routes, the five oldest Nationals — all 10.3m 40-seaters — have been sold to a dealer.
– A spokeSman for the under . .
taking told CM this week that the vehicles were disposed of as a matter of engineering policy.
He added that their sale had to cover the outstanding loan on their purchase, and this had been achieved.
