GERMAN TRAILER manufacturer Kogel is to launch a serious long-term challenge on the UK volume trailer market by the end of this year.
Although it has what it considers to be a perfect chassis for the UK, it has been held back by the lack of bodywork higher than the European limit.
Now it has designed UK-specific bodies of 4.6m height. The trailers will be assembled at a new facility near Birmingham. based on chassis components from Kogel's existing plant in the Czech Republic. Klaus Spooren, general manager, sales, for Western Europe, says key personnel had already been recruited. The initial 10 staff will increase as production rises from an 250 units a year to 1,000.
Curtainsiders are the first target, with dry freight boxes included.
