Towing Attachment TWO new towing fittings have been introduced by Neate Brake Controls Ltd. One is the NT13/2T/I05 Combined Ball Hitch and Jaw, the other the NTJ/6T/104 Adjustable Height Towing Jaw.
The NTI3/2T/105 Ball/Jaw is suitable for fitting to light commercial vehicles. The Jaw is Made from high-grade cast steel and the combined ball and pin is a high-tensile steel drop forging. Designed to tow trailers weighing up to 2 tons, the unit incorporates a special locating pin to ensure that the ball pin is firmly locked into its position ye: is easily removable. The adjustable height towing jaw is to overcome the difficulty of coupling various trailers where the drawbar heights differ. It is simple to install and the height of the jaw can be adjusted over a range of 18 in. The frame of the unit is of steel plate and a sliding shoe which fits over the vertical member incorporates a Neate NTJ/617104 towing jaw with 1-25 in. dia. towing pin, the NTH/5T/105 towing hook being an alternative. Recommended capacity is 6 tons and although the jaw is held at any desired height by two bolts it does not depend on them for taking the towing strain, as the ends of the sliding shoe fold round the vertical plate.

Servicing Guide THE seventh volume in the series Servicing Guide to British Motor Vehicles has just been published by lliffe Books Ltd., Dorset House, Stamford Street, London, S.E.1. Following the same pattern as earlier volumes, the latest measures 11.25 in. by 8-25 in. with 272 pages and costs £3 15s. net (plus 3s. by post).
Although the general scheme is unaltered, service data and supplement sheets are in a larger format and the extra space has meant that illustrations can be bigger and clearer and there is more information. Commercial vehicles included in Volume 7 are the Commer Walk-Thru 3-ton van, the Morris 1.5-ton lorry, the Triumph Courier 5-cwt. van and the Land-Rover. The Perkins 6.354 engine is also included and many items in the sections on components apply to commercials.

Industrial Trailers. Model 4P40 is a four-wheel fixed platform type, of 2-ton capacity. The platform size is 14 ft. by 6 ft. clear and the loading height is 20 in. Independent suspension is achieved by use of hollow rubber springs which have a progressive rate and inherent damping action. The chassis is constructed of hollow rectangular tubes to give maximum strength and low weight. Model 4P60 is similar, with a capacity of three tons. Model 4TP40 is a tilting platform design of 2-ton capacity. The platform is inclined for loading and the load (if wheeled) is driven or winched up. When it reaches point of balance the platform levels under the control of shock absorbers. Nonwheeled equipment can be winched aboard by using pipes as rollers. Model 4TP60 is a 3-ton capacity version of this design.
Sides, headboards and tailboard can be provided if desired and tailor-made wheel channels may be supplied in lieu of a fully planked floor. These trailers are suitable for the carriage of contractors' plant, machinery and general heavy merchandise, and also for vehicle recovery.

Improved Batteries ELIMINATION of external cell connectors, made practicable 1-4 by the use of special epoxy resins for the seals between the cells, gives the new Oldham Red Top 12V battery range a greatly improved low temperature performance over batteries of conventional construction. Improved separators are also incorporated.
Red Top batteries, as the name suggests, are distinguishable by a red top to the casing—there are still individual filler-vent plugs to each cell—and are sold with a two-year free-replacement guarantee. A cheaper version--the Lively-0 has an all-black casing and a 12 months' guarantee. Whilst a full range of car (and light van sizes) is planned, only two sizes of each of the new batteries is immediately available, Red Top 6ES3-1/0FR and 6ES4-1/0FR and Lively-0 6EB3-1/0FR and 6EB4-1/0FR. The 6ES3 and 6EB3 have capacities of 42 ah. at the 20-hr. rate and measure 101} in. long by 611,in. wide by 9 in. high whilst the 6ES4 and 6EB4 are 2 in. longer and have capacities of 57 ah.
