Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Mercedes-Benz (UK) Ltd, Great West Road, Brantford, Middx The 1626S chassis on display is the British version of the new range from Mercedes-Benz announced earlier this year.. The German firm was very conscious of the visual image presented by a heavy long-distance truck and hence its new cab was designed to "look small" even though the interior cab dimensions have remained the same.

The tractive unit has a Wheelbase of 3.0m (9 ft 10 in) instead of the 3.5m of the German version. A diesel engine of V8 configuration giving 191kW (256 bhp) is coupled to a ZF six-speed constant-mesh gearbox via a 380 mm (15in) diameter single-dry-plate clutch. The first examples of the new-look cab are likely to be seen on operators' vehicles in this country early in the New Year.

The mainstay of Mercedes effort in the 32-ton market, the LPS 1418, is continuing unchanged and is on show at Earls Court. This is pdwered by an in-line six-cylinder engine which produces 143kVV (192 bhp) at 2,200rpm.

Two of the smaller members of the Mercedes range complete the display, an L608D van and an L306D light transporter with front-wheel drive.

The L306D is a 3.5-tonne (3.44-ton) gvw vehicle available in two van sizes, 6.4 and 7.7 cu m (226 and 272cu ft), and in chassis cab farm with three wheelbases. The power unit is a 44kW (60bhp) diesel engine. The larger van has more power — 63kW (85bhp) -and is available with gvw of 5.69 or 6.5 tonnes (5.6 or 6.39 tons).

74 MOSKVICH

Moskvich Ltd, Satre Motors Ltd, Carnaby Industrial Estate, nr Bridlington, Yorks, Y015 3QX All vehicles in the Moskvich range are powered by the same light alloy petrol engine of 1,478 cc (90 cu in) which produces 60kW (80bhp) at 5,800rpm on four-star petrol. A four-speed allsynchromesh gearbox is standard equipment as is the single-dry-plate 203 ram (8 in) diameter clutch. Two ratios are available for the hypoid-bevel rear axle — 4.22 or 4.55 to 1.

The van and the pick-up versions also share the same basic dimensions. The wheelbase is 2.4m (7ft 101/2in) and the overall length is 4.1 m (13ft Sin) for a claimed payload of 406 kg (8 cwt).

59 ROVER

Rover-British Leyland UK, Lode Lane, Solihull, Warwicks

Apart from minor detail improvements, the Land-Rover remains basically unchanged. A 2.77m (109 in) wheelbase 12-seater model is shown fitted with a two-stretcher installation by Spencer Abbott and Co Ltd and powered by a sixcylinder petrol engine.

An example of the shorter wheelbase 2.24 m,88 in) model is shown powered by the four-cylinder petrol engine and fitted out as a hydraulically operated mobile workshop by E. C. Hopkins Ltd. Extras on this Land-Rover include locks and security catches, an extra 46-litre (10gal)cluel tank and high-rate front springs.

A four-cylinder diesel version of the short wheelbase Land-Rover is fitted with an overdrive unit by Fairey Winches Ltd_ This is a fully synchronized device designeef-and developed exclusively for Land-Rover and can be fitted in two to three hours on any model having a standard gearbox.

Three of the permanent four-wheeldrive Range Rovers are on display, two as ambulance conversions by Spencer Abbott and Herbert Lomas and the third to police specification.

97 SAVIEM
