ITEAVY petrol consumption may be the fault of the L driver and sometimes the result of mechanical or other defects in the engine ; even binding brakes may make a great difference.
Some suggestions to reduce consumption may be helpful. Avoid fast driving and never race the engine. . Make good use of the throttle when you wish to slow down. Do not drive up to an obstruction and slam on the brakes. Be careful with the transmission adjustments; never make these too Light. See that excessive wear on the axle shaft bearings does not permit the brake drums to bear on the lower brake shoes.
If the exhaust has a pungent or noxious odour, cut down the supply at the needle valve. Refrain from running with retarded ignition, and see that the ignition lever does actually advance the spark within the required range.
Do not rest your toes on the pedals as this may cause continuous friction.
Always cut down the rich starting mixture immediately the engine warms up to its work.
