EICESTER'S Corporation buses will travel an extra 100,000 miles each year if and when the proposed gyratory system of traffic control comes into operation.
Mr. Leslie Smith, deputy transport manager, said this when giving evidence at a public inquiry in Leicester after 10 local coach firms had objected to an application from Leicester Council to install three bus stops on the south side of Humberstone Gate and close down the existing private coach stand in Humberstone Gate and replace it with a new and smaller stand farther down the same street. The East Midlands Traffic Commi: sioners deferred their decision.
Mr. Smith said that although the bi for the extra mileage would be betwee £5,000 and £12,000 a year, and peop would have farther to walk, there won: be a definite alleviation of trail congestion.
