OPERATORS ARE bracing themselves for increased red tape with the news that the HSE is working on a new set of management standards for the road transport industry.
The Workplace Transport Priority Programme, a working party within the HSE, has been given the go-ahead to carry out a wholesale revision of safety standards in the road transport business leading to a set of standards for managing workplace transport activity.
The standards, which will he non-regulatory, will cover a range of areas ironi driver and supervisor competence.
The HSE reckons workplace transport accidents cost the UK economy up to £544m in 2001/02.
There will be a full consultation next year.The standards are due to be published in March 2007.
