TRAILERS 111'1ED with meat rails are much in demand at present, says Dave Higgs of Hartlebuty Worcestershire-based independent dealership DH Commercials.
"We had a very positive reaction to some Chereau 13.6m triaxle meat railers dating back to 1994 that we had in stock," he reports. "There seems to he a shortage of this type of trailer, and! suspect it's because so few new ones were ordered during the BSE crisis a while back.That's had a knock-on effect on the used market, of course, because it means that fewer are available."
Higgs is still busy disposing of large numbers of Mercedes-Benz Sprinter and Iveco Cargo based prison vans -"we've got 13 in stock at present with another 17 on their way to us"and has found a useful market for them.
"We're selling them to people who race things like quad bikes and go karts at the weekend," he explains. "They can use them as living accommodation and to transport spares and tools."
DI-1 Commercials is maintaining its export activities, with plenty of interest being expressed in 1993 to 1995-vintage MercedesBenz 1820s. "Overseas buyers won't take junk though," Higgs concludes. "They want clean vehicles at sensible prices that can be driven straight to the docks."
