• Possibly the slowest vehicles to be involved in Formula 1, the two Volvo FH12 tractors ordered by the Federation Internationale dei'Automobile (FIA) are certainly pulling their weight.
Based in Surrey, but operating across mainland Europe, one of the FH12s will transport scrutineering equipment to all of the European Formula One events for the FIA—the governing body of world motor sport. The other trailer contains a fuel-testing laboratory, office accommodation and hospitality suite for FIA staff.
Highly specified with I-Shift, Prestige trim and climate control, the 460hp FH12 4x2s are on a service and maintenance contract with the Hayes depot of Volvo Truck and Bus.
They will be covering approximately 30,000km in a Formula One season, which lasts from April to September each year. But don't worry, it's not all glamour. The drivers are responsible for cleaning the trucks and trailers, setting up the equipment and packing it away at the end of a race weekend.
