• lore than 70 people are killed every year because of workplace accidents involving vehicles, says the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).
The risks posed by lorries, forklifts, dumper trucks and other vehicles are highlighted in a new HSE campaign encouraging employers to follow safety guidelines. Under regulations coining into force in January employers will have to assess the risks posed by vehicles in the workplace and take action to prevent them.
The HSE says there were 1,363 major accidents involving vehicles at work last year. The four most common type of accidents are people being struck by vehicles; people falling off them; objects falling off vehicles on to people and vehicles overturning.
