• Deciding what's new on the engine front could get confusing! Some engines are new, some were released in the current model for 2002 and some are even more familiar. The names change according to the marque, regardless of origin. The PSA twins, Citroen and Peugeot, call their diesels NM, while Fiat's are all All, however, are common-rail turbo-diesels and all, bar the 2.0-litre, are charge-cooled.
Top and bottom of the range is easy. The 2.0-litre is the familiar PSA-sourced DW10 unit in 83hp tune, while the 2.8 is the equally familiar Sofim unit giving 126hp of power and a thundering 300Hm of torque.
It's in the middle that we find some divergence. The PSA twins have the new 2.2-litre DW12, basically a larger capacity, charge-cooled DW10, rated at 99hp. The equivalent Fiat is a 2.3-litre, 16 valve twincam producing 109hp and 270Nrn. Where used for minibus applications, this engine also comes with exhaust gas recirculation.
As well as the diesel line-up which will power the vast majority of vehicles, there is a choice of 2.0-litre spark-ignition engines, including dual-fuel versions. These are petrol and petrol/CNG units producing 109hp and a petrol/LPG option yielding 9511p.
