• Fife and District Tipper Operators' Association, representing 10 haulage contractors who operate to and from Longannet and Kincardine power stations, ceased operations on January 13.
The secretary, Mr Tom Gaitens, said members had agreed it would be "foolish" to try to enter the stations with pickets operating. He gave a warning that, if the miners' strike continued for any length of time, it would inevitably lead to drivers being paid off for a period.
A fair proportion of winter work for the contractors comes from taking local coal into Kincardine power station, and ferrying fuel from Longannet to Cockenzie power station on the south side of the Forth.
