I READ your article in CM's Scottish issue, "Jobs for the Girls" (CM 23 June) with interest. I have just entered the transport industry as a driver in Scotland, even though I originate south of the border.
I did this as a late career change — I am 45— after unemployment and long-term illness. At my own expense in money and time I passed my class C and C+E licence first time. 111e Sunday Mail has just done an article on this. So, if lean manage this, then a lot of women who have an interest in the transport industry could too.
I currently do agency work, and Morrisons at Bellshill and Bathgate are so helpful—particularly as lam sure my reversing is not the best they have seenl I have found the men in the industry, so far, to be helpful. Granted, the work is not easy and days can be long and tiring. but it's a great job and more women should at least give it a try. I wish now that I had done this years ago: all the men folk are not as scary as you think!
