MERCEDES-BENZ has demonstrated the fuel economy improvements of the new Actros by running an official 10,000km test.
New Euro-5 and Euro-6 Actroses competed head-to-head with a current Euro-5 Actros (which set the fuel consumption world record for a 40-tonne truck in 2008). All three trucks were running on Shell FuelSave diesel and Shell Rimula R6 LME engine oil.
Driving from Rotterdam, the Netherlands to Szczecin, Poland, and back, the Actros Euro-5 and Actros Euro-6 achieved fuel savings of 7.6% and 4.5% respectively versus the current Actros. The actual fuel economy figures were 11.25mpg for the new Euro-5 Actros, 10.90mpg for the new Euro-6 Actros and 10.42mpg for the current Euro-5 Actros.
The test was overseen by DEKRA, the German Motor Vehicle Inspection Association.
